A Solo Christmas Holiday in Seville 2024
On Christmas Eve of last year, I picked up my backpack and embarked on a six day solo journey to Seville, Spain.
Some might call me crazy for traveling alone on Christmas—a
time traditionally spent with family and friends. Why are you alone
during the holidays? Aren’t you lonely? These questions kept coming from
different people.
But no, I’m not lonely. Solo travel doesn’t automatically
mean loneliness, does it? I think we often confuse solitude with loneliness.
They are two entirely different things. Being alone doesn’t mean feeling
lonely. In fact, you can be surrounded by family, friends, or even a partner
and still experience loneliness. But don’t worry, I’m not here to give a
lecture on that—maybe another time!
Back to my story. I’ve spent almost four years in the UK basically
exploring just countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) and the
cities within the UK; however, I haven’t visited another European country 🤫. Not
because I didn’t want to, but because I believed I couldn’t do it alone. Yet,
deep down, I longed to explore the world—even on a budget. I know some of you
can relate. Maybe you’re waiting for that perfect girls’ trip, a group getaway,
or even a significant other to travel with. I get it. That was me, too.
Until one day, I decided enough was enough. I wasn’t going
to keep waiting. I was going to take the leap and start exploring—solo. And
what better way to prove I could do it than by spending Christmas in a foreign
country, away from familiar faces? If I could survive that, then surely,
nothing was stopping me from solo traveling at any time of the year.
So, I booked my trip, packed my bags, and set off on this
exciting adventure. And let me tell you—it was one of the best decisions I’ve
ever made!
Traveling solo teaches you so much about yourself. It pushes
you out of your comfort zone, makes you more independent, and allows you to
fully immerse yourself in new cultures. Seville, with its breathtaking
architecture, lively streets, and warm atmosphere, was the perfect place to
start my solo journey.
Of course, solo travel does require some planning. You need
to have a solid itinerary but also allow room for flexibility. It’s a balance
between having a plan and embracing spontaneity.
So, if you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to travel
solo—this is your sign. Don’t let the fear of being alone hold you back. Take
that leap, explore the world, and create unforgettable memories. You never know
what incredible experiences await you until you go for it!
Would I do it again? Absolutely. And next time, it might not
just be for Christmas! 😉
Watch out for my next blog, where I explore the amazing places,
I visited during my trip to Seville!
